Seminar Event - Part II {Presentation}:
Presentation:
The research presentation (seminar) will be evaluated by a panel of judges on the basis of scientific merit and excellence of presentation.
Each student/school will be responsible for providing a computer if needed by the presenter(s).
The SSTFI WILL provide:
- · one (1) LCD projector in each room; however, if you prefer to use your own LCD that is also acceptable.
- · One (1) screen per room
- · One (1) audio/visual cart with plug-ins
Any other equipment that may be needed for the presentation must be provided by the student/school.
1. Presenters are permitted into the event room (during the Seminar Room & Presentation Check) to deliver and set up their event equipment and materials. Presenters will NOT be allowed to practice the speaking component of the presentation in the Seminar Room -- this time is for equipment checks ONLY.
2. Students will be allowed to practice/prep for their event in their designated Seminar Prep room (see seminar schedule). Note: there may be multiple presenters prepping in the room at one time – please be respectful of others.
3. Presentation Rules:
- · Each student will have a scheduled time– fifteen (15) minutes total
- · Use of audio-visual aids is encouraged/expected.
- · Three minutes (3) will be allowed to set up immediately prior to the presentation. Points will be deducted for exceeding the three minutes to setup. (.1 point/second)
- · Eight (8) minutes will be allowed each presenter in which to describe the research.
- · Four (4) minutes will be allowed for questioning by the judges.
- · ONLY judges are allowed to ask questions.
4. Set-up is to be handled by the STUDENT ONLY. This event is based on the student presenters understanding the entire process of presenting a research paper including the technical components of putting together the presentation.
5. Technical difficulties must be handled by student presenters; however, the Adult Supervisor/Teacher may help if there are serious problems and to help keep the competition on schedule*.
6. The SSTFI will provide computer support persons that may also provide help to either Junior or Senior High students.
7. Alternate Presentation: Students must have an alternate presentation method in case of equipment failure. The Seminar Chairperson reserves the right to ask a presenter to utilize an alternative presentation format in the event that it takes the presenter longer than 10 minutes to set-up equipment.
*Note: if serious set up issues occur that impede the process of the overall event the seminar chairperson has the right to remove the student(s) from the room and allow the next presenter to present. The student(s) will be allowed to present in another time slot. This is to aid the efficiency of the overall event AND to help calm the student(s) and help provide time to regroup.
The seminar presentation may be as creative as student(s) wish. The popular method is to present using a PowerPoint (or other slide based) presentation. However, student(s) may choose any method or technology to present their findings.
The only item not allowed as a presentation method is the removal of the display board from the floor competition. Items that would be helpful in using as illustration from the floor display area are acceptable.
